When young Prince Nyakiiru returns from a long hunt, he finds that his father, Omukama Winyi I, has already given away all the royal drums — symbols of leadership — to his brothers. Only two remain. But the one he truly desires, the sacred drum Nyamirembe, is not meant for him.
Determined and clever, Nyakiiru secretly takes the drum and sets out to rule over a distant land called Kiziba.
